I just can’t describe it. I’m going to make flash cards for Dispatch! Seriously the dog obviously uses the written words in place of the verbal or hand commands but isn’t that sort of reading. I guess it’s really not reading till you can rearrange them and the dog understands like two commands on one card but I’m not saying that’s not impossible.
I tried to get it to embed but couldn’t but it’s on The Today Show on NBC.
Interesting video. I guess it is a form of reading.
It is pretty amazing. I watched it twice to see if she was giving other non-verbal clues but I couldn’t see any. It would be interesting to know if the cards were shuffled if the dog would still get the commands right. Impressive regardless.
Dogs are so amazing and eager to please. Nothing surprises me about them.
SquirrelQueen it is a form of reading, I’m wondering if you started earlier and taught all sorts of commands like that would the dog learn the alphabet and learn like the word run? They say they are between the age of a 2 year old and a 6 year old mentally. I can hear my daughter now, don’t you dare compare that dog to your grandkids. But she is loony over her dogs too.
Rae I think the studio made up the flashcards and I couldn’t see that she was doing anything non verbally either.
Jan I agree, I know Dispatch knows way more about what is going on than he is supposed to. Like when he continuously tried to bite someone his Daddy didn’t like last week, followed the guy around! And we hadn’t spoken a harsh word to this guy. Of course that’s not good dog behavior but he knew which end was up.
Hmm smart dog, I thought the dog is going to read then talk hahaha.

AL you have given me my belly laugh for the day, that would be funny. Maybe I can teach Dispatch although he seems to be balking at the most basic leash and come commands.
