Greetings Earthlings.
Seriously above is a picture of Discpatch my bichon when he was a baby. It’s an aceo the size of a playing card I did with colored pencil. I used to sell them on ebay till the bottom dropped out of the market. Anyway it has nothing to do with what I want to say but when did I ever make sense? Ask yourself, Really? Actually I’m pretty proud of the picture even though his head looks deformed but he’d just woke up and I went from a photo.
HAPPY TURKEY DAY!!! We are going to the in laws (my in-laws his parents) I didn’t make it to grocery store since we’ve been gone so I am opening cans of fruit cocktail and peaches and apricots and calling it fruit mingle salade for my contribution to Thanksgiving dinner. We all hope everyone who celebrates this greatest of glutton holidays does so safely and happily. Husband has decided to go off of diet for one day, don’t know how much weight he’s lost with no sweets, nothing fatty or fried, lots of chicken and greens (thank goodness for subway sandwiches and progresso soup) and eating every few hours but I’ve lost 6 lb I think. Will know better in the morn.
So we survived the truck trip. You know how Dispatch travels in a car. He is WONDERFUL in a truck he was like super traveling dog? He even slept on the floor once in awhile when the sleeper was too crowded with mommy and daddy sprawled out. He slep on floor or sat on my lap most of the time while we were going down the road. If I wouldn’t hold him he would pout and look out little window @ the bottom of the door sometimes. When we went in truck stops and came back out within 1/2 hour his little white head would be staring out the window @ the spot where he’d last seen us disappear. He became used to the COLD water in the frig really quick and demanded COLD water in his travel bowl every time I”d get daddy some. Yes we have a frig and a crock pot. Broke the TV and a driver took the microwave but we will get those soon (we have a sort of old beat up truck but guess what? it’s almost PAID for!!). We spent two days of this trip in Super 8 though so ……….
Highlights of the trip:
Dispatch is pretty convinced the rumble strips on the side of the road are a monster coming through the truck floor if Daddy would happen to hit them, you can imagine the noise they make in a big truck, in other words Daddy did it on purpose to bother the dog. The jake brake was bothersome too but it wasn’t as bad.
Border Patrol officers are NOT Dispatches friends. One stepped up on the truck steps in the middle of nowhere TX @ an inspection station and Daddy had the door open, Dispatch the bichon saw the officer as a direct threat and came out after the patrol under Daddies legs, didn’t actually touch him but the officer stepped back. I told the nice officer that Dispatch was a citizen too, he managed a weak smile after being threatened by the walking q-tip. I held onto Dispatch the next time we stopped @ an inspection station, I could see the dog jumping out of the truck and attacking the doberman cross drug/alien sniffing dog. BTW I’ve always wanted to answer the nice Border Patrol officer with “No hablo inglais Senor” when he asks if I”m a citizen but I’ve resisted the temptation so far, would be funny to see his face and then I’d slip back into the Missouri drawl but I’m afraid they wouldn’t think it was as cute as I did?
I was convinced something had happened to Skeeter here @ home because nobody mentioned her and I was afraid to ask. She was ailing when we left see previous posts. She’s not now. Husband called her a tough old bi#(%. She yodeled when we came home and Dispatch made his noise like a banshee being skinned alive while having it’s claws pulled out till we put him down out of the truck. Then they just shut up like magic, they don’t even like each other? Skeeter is somewhere between 13 and immortal and we are leaning toward immortal.
I used to think people were looking @ me if they stared. Now it’s my dog. I got used to the pointing and waving after I made sure I didn’t have a rip in the butt of my jeans or anything like that. Big old rough truck drivers would come up and tell me what a cute little co driver we had. Dispatch does this climbing thing when I pick him up like he stands up on his hind legs and helps me pick him up. Of course this is cute too. And then there were those that were amazed he wasn’t on a leash most of the time. We keep telling them we CAN NOT get away from HIM! If I saw a cat or another dog I’d put him on a leash though, just in case but he ignored them. Drivers were even amused when he was viciously telling them how he would tear them limb from limb if he could only get out of this truck because they got too close to ours.
Going to try to post on Tresa’s Blog too. I had internet service but we had sort of a me and him (meaning husband not dog) trip but I’m ashamed I didn’t do more visiting blogs while we were in motel @ least.
I’m going to try to write on blogger animals that give pause too, not making any promises.
Oh yeah, rest area S of Dallas on southbound I-35, DO NOT put your furry dog in the grass away from the picnic tables, solid sand burrs but you can’t see them. It was pitiful, but h (the bichon not the husband) learned to let me fool with his feet pretty well. Anyway I would go out and pat the ground before I’d let the dog down to pee after that incident if it wasn’t solid grass grass. I suppose this made me look not quite right perhaps? Visual: midnight, parking area N of Falfurias TX, woman patting ground while holding white furry dog under vapor light. Scary.
I found a wonderful blog Beyond My Slab. Just go there and read, you will see what you need to do, this is an unemployed professional who is working @ menial jobs to keep the wolf from the door or try to. Hint, there is a paypal button @ the bottom right hand corner if you feel so moved, or just link to her. I got this idea and link from Laurie @ Three Dog Blog who is a real writer and has a book and job writing and everything. I’m sure she would LOVE being described like that!

Coffee likes looking at the window and bark at all the dogs we passed by, as if he is a big dog bullying every dog big and small! Dis looks really cute when he was a baby and I know until now Dispatch is still and will remain a cute little baby. Happy thanksgiving and eat moderately LOL!
AL
Yes, Bichons are attention getters~ Chloe is like Al’s Coffee – does the same thing.
Love your drawing of Dis – you have a lot of talent!
PS Smart to make the fruit salad like you did – next time, you can sprinkle some granola on top or something crunky. Maybe call it cobbler??? LOL
They’re gorgeous little dogs! My Mom had one a long time ago and he was such a dear! And you’re right…they LOVE attention!
