Why Adopt A Bichon Frise?

If you are thinking about adopting a bichon…… well perhaps you should read my animals that give pause blog on blogger , and the best place to go is Petfinder for a bichon or any other dog or cat for adoption of course there are many other organizations out there but most are linked up with petfinder I believe.

Of course Bichon Frise are just incredibly cute……even if he is a big tough boy and mama makes him hold her ebay paintings…..

Bichons can be forced to pretend they like some cats.

Bichons can balance very well.

Bichon Frise can look incredibly wise @ a young age.

Bichons can explain to young children how to best get treats……

And Bichons can play well with others…..

Been Gone

I’ve been gone for awhile but NO MORE. I’m not officially employed, full time anyway, no children @ home so what can I find to do? I can blog!!

Seriously I have a husband who is self employed and we all know what that all means, a large house and lawn, and I am freelancing and have 5 blogs and I’m trying to write for a rather famous site @ the moment…not sure if I can say I got the job but cross your fingers for me..

In the meantime go see this site and tell them I told you to stop by! And comment enough here and I might say something nice in a post but honestly I don’t say anything nice just because I can, you have to have a great site!!

The Working Bichon and His Bad Breath

This is also on my animals blog @ blogspot. Lazy? Perhaps? I may be obsessive and stubborn but I’m not a total idiot. It’s easier to get traffic on blogspot. Therefore I will not give up my blogspot blogs. I had my reasons for starting these new blogs and they haven’t left but if I can write for 3 blogs I can write for 5. So sometimes you will see duplicates (often) on the two animals blogs and sometimes you will see duplicates on Tresa’s blog and Florenceview. Confused? Just read them all and FEEL FREE to click on any of the links therein. Therein, that’s a big word huh?

Dispatch has always been a busy dog. He’s always been a people dog too, accommodating and sweet smelling. Here he is above making sure Mama doesn’t make the mistake of leaving him in the camper as he’s pretty sure he wants to go in the car where the suitcases are…… sitting in the street should work?
Here he is directing the morning gathering of a hurricane crew cleaning up after Katrina in Biloxi MS. His Daddy and “brother” are the two biggest ones.

Here he is either washing Matt’s boot or checking air pressure in the tires with moisture?

He is keeping Daddy firmly in the chair later in the week. Daddy had gotten staph from a chainsaw cut on his leg and a case of Daddy telling Mommy I don’t need a bandage anymore a sock is fine……took 6 months and we both had staph by the time it was over. For the med geeks it was MRSA too! Daddy wasn’t even supposed to be out in the heat but he thought Mama couldn’t boss the hurricane cleanup crew as well as he could, he was probably right.
Dispatch was keeping Daddy weighted in the chair. Daddy isn’t a good patient.
Dispatch even smells good when he is so upset he doesn’t know what to do? Mama took him to the vet and they had a groomer there too. Horror of horrors. He’d never met a real groomer before and this was first in a long line This is also when the vet confirmed the French Canadians we lived by in FL were right. They said “ee es sich a sweet beeechon (bichon)” (talking about the dog when I would walk him) I said in my Missouri drawl, “hez a podoll, don’t chall know a podoll when ya alls sees one?” (I maybe exaggerated my drawl a bit?) But I am digressing he still smelled fairly good.

Part of the problem is his Daddy has a nose like a bloodhound and always has. So when Dispatch started getting bad breath we looked to the teeth, a bit of tartar but not much, so we went with the treats and the bones designed to clean teeth. This was in September or October I think, I bought doggie toothpaste and until you’ve used that on a dog you haven’t lived. We finally just stick it on a paper towel wrapped around our finger (plastic finger thingy was gone out of our toothpaste for dogs) and I disinfected his toothbrush and use it because I forgot mine. Yes I use the dogs toothbrush but get over it, IT’S DISINFECTED!!! He only used it once anyway, that was enough for me and him both. His breath wasn’t much better, in fact it was getting worse. So I said OK, he can do pepto bismol so how about listerine and water on a paper towel and swab out his mouth? After this he seemed to prefer his Daddy over his Mama so much more? Wonder why? Every time I went to the pet store I forgot to buy anything for his breath. So yesterday Daddy and I were shopping and I’d refrained from buying the breath tabs for dogs @ Wal Mart because lets face it, Dispatch is picky, if it’s not cheese, milk, ice cream, or meat it had better be really sweet or he’d better be starving. He refused to eat pork except for bacon or ham for years. The breath tabs are mint flavored. Daddy said let’s try them as Daddy can smell the dog clear across the truck. Do you think he would even get CLOSE to them?
Does this look like the face of a mint eating dog? He will struggle but let me do almost anything to him. He let me dig @ his head once with tweezers to get a partial tick out of his skin. I break the breath tab in half, I plead with Dispatch, get a death grip on his head while he’s on my lap and stick the mint in his mouth and he sort of chews on it in an effort to push it out of his mouth. After about 3 of those sessions the breath tab is mostly gone and I stick it in his food hoping he’ll have a change of heart. The mints do seem to be helping.
Tomorrow maybe a post on Doggie flatulence….. yes he passes gas and it’s HORRIBLE!!

Bichon Frise in Sunglasses

What happens when you have too much time and a semi willing bichon frise. The look of absolute disgust from him was not in the least enhanced, he really felt that way about me I’m sure.

Happy New Years if I’m not back on before then, I have limited battery power and then when I can run the inverter I have limited internet speed!!

I used baby powder on him and brushed him out this morn, 2 weeks w/o a bath for him, (I’ve had several thank you) and he is a bit stinky. We had to eat Christmas Dinner in a truck stop but I am in FLORIDA!!! Shirt sleeve weather, I think it quit snowing in the midwest after what 4 or 5 days??

Hey this is the Dis, that’s me up there, nice and cozy on the quilt, see, lord and master of all I observe? This is what my mama sees most of the time when she looks up from computer. The chair was her Daddies (I never met him but I’ve heard tales about candy bars and spoiling dogs).

This is the position I assume when I’m a bit tired but want to keep an eye on my mama. She’s been known to escape ya know and hard telling what kind of trouble she could get into by herself! The thing sitting on the bench is her bread maker, she says she’s making bread more, I’m thinking she needs to make STEAK and ROAST more? Yes that’s a pedal tractor in the family room, they do make those grandkids go outside to ride them most of the time though.

I can feel myself slipping

I must keep awake though, my services in barking @ a car or guarding my mama against that horrible evil cat named Meany may be needed @ any second. BTW did you notice the pink pepto hair around my mouth. I’m feeling better now. Mama keeps telling me the white rug in the living room is not my make believe newspaper, whoooooops! old keyboard

Do you notice anything about this keyboard other than mama really needs to clean it (remember I only use this one once every couple months and dust do collect)? Like no one else can use it unless they touch type because part of the keys aren’t even showing the letters anymore. It’s really funny when my Uncle tries to use it (my daddies brother) he curses and yells, my Daddy can sort of remember where the letters should be. The bad thing is my mama has worn out like 5 or 6 of these, and a couple wireless ones. Maybe she should have written a book about ME with all that useless typing?

50th wedding

My mama found this picture and she says I can show you, it’s my uncle and people I can’t place but Mama says they are her mommy and daddy and it was something like a 50th anniversary? I wonder if that is like a 50th birthday? I knows my Uncle (mama says he was just being obstinate wearing suspenders to his parents 50th wedding anniversary) (My mama also says she wasn’t fed as a child which should be obvious but I’m thinking she’s always done those diet things?) My mama said that my sisters were in high school when this taken which makes mama sort of old. Mama said she knows she almost forgot to do her mama’s hair and it doesn’t look like she did her own either? She also says she really does love her brother, he was just saying horribly annoying embarrassing things when the picture was taken. (imagine?) She also says she wasn’t a nurse, that was her linen suit that she had for like years and years, she just was a bit skinnier then. And those ARE her parents and that is her brother, she was just an afterthought big time.

I wonder where the Dis was in these pictures? I’m ALWAYS in pictures? And there was cake there and I wasn’t there? Wonder if they put me in a crate!!!? Oh well. Mama wrote on her Missouri Books Blog about Cesar Millan’s newest book A Member of the Family. Personally I think it should be the leader of the pack or the king of the family but if poor delusional Cesar wants to pretend he’s in charge that’s fine with me. I’ll let the humans have their fantasy life as long as it doesn’t interfere with cheese, meat, and warm beds.

Dispatch visited his “sister” and Charlie. Of course Daddy had to drive him and I was there too. Had a wonderful visit and lunch with relatives in KS. You can see Dispatch shared his Daddy with Charlie? Well sort of.

Youth Deer Season

And the great white hunters didn’t get a deer (two of our grandsons). Their great grandfathers would be so proud of them for even hunting though, one was famous game warden and the other was a hunter who got one of the first deer when the whitetail was reintroduced into Missouri habitat.

More later, we are fine, busy with life. Dispatch is better. I saw bulldog puppies and they love me, (of course), pictures to follow.

Oh yes we visited petco, found some semi soft food, pet botanics and naturally wild dry food. Dispatch REALLY likes the soft food and I think the dry food is helping his anal “condition” which has become known as the dogs butt hurts. Several people have mentioned it’s because he can be a butt@%)#, well you get the idea.

Will try to catch up soon, just wanted everyone to know we arrived safely and we are healthy.

Dispatch Smiles

We are back from the vet and there is an update @ the bottom. GOOD NEWS, walking on air,…. sunshine oh yeah, can’t remember the rest of the words……..

He isn’t that sick but he isn’t that good either. He hasn’t been wanting to go up and down steps, I even posted about it on http://animalsthatgivepause.com/. He was grumpy last night when we were playing with the ball. Then I noticed I was having to lift him on the couch or the bed, he wouldn’t jump up which is like weird, he can doing a bichon blitz off the bed like you won’t believe. He did jump up on Daddy’s leg this morning and I did get him to jump on the bed by opening the window (mama might escape?) but he just barely made it up there. He wouldn’t jump up for tennis balls or anything. He has been yelping when he pawed the dirt after he poops which I thought was strange, I looked for a nail that was bothering him but nothing. Then just now he did it again when he was trying to tell me he wanted the tennis ball. He had been whining for the tennis ball because it’s in my purse on a chair but normally he’d jump up on the chair and get it out of my purse. He won’t come outside when I take the neighbors dog potty even when I leave the door open and talk baby talk to the other dog. He hasn’t eaten or drank today, he pooped this morning but hasn’t peed as far as I know. He won’t even eat cheese!!!

You ask why I’m posting this? Why aren’t I rushing to the Dr? They aren’t taking walk ins till 2 pm so I’ve got a bit of time to kill. I’m actually typing so I will remain calm(tears have threatened to come a couple times and he may just have a pulled muscle or something, stupid dog). He isn’t that comfortable with me holding him and I’m sure we will get plenty of together time @ the vets. Here’s a picture of him I took a couple weeks ago and doctored up with photoshop. Doesn’t he look sick? He’s sleeping in his dog bed quite a bit too, he NEVER sleeps in his dog bed. And he’s doing this funny thing he’s always done, we call it yoga dog where he looks like he is stretching his neck up and he just poses like that for 5 -30 seconds, looks down and then does it again. But he’s been doing it like 5 times as much the last couple days.

I will let you know. Good thoughts our way PLEASE!!

It was inflamed full full anal glands. They expressed them and did blood work because his little belly was rigid I guess his belly was rigid because his butt hurt because nothing else was wrong. In fact the vet used the word fantastic or amazing when describing how healthy he was otherwise!! I told Dispatches Daddy about it all and he said so basically we spent that much money because the dogs butt was sore? He has a way of putting things doesn’t he?

And if Sheila (I think that’s her name) from the dentists office reads this thank you for your help with getting a vet!

The lifted paw is proof he is physically suffering as we so heartlessly go out the door without him, the misery, the pure torture, especially when mama came back in to get the camera. It’s getting worse, soon he will be up for an Oscar nomination in the drama category.

And here is the video of Dispatch in the stroller, if I don’t like walk far far away he will stay in it. Dog knows which side his bread is buttered on. I did have a stroller for my second child, not for the first however!

We (dog and I) are going to walk around the resort (read rv park) today and not that road. Where I stopped the video is where they ran over a huge water moccasin Thursday after we had a flood. It was gone from the road when we went out to eat last night and I told my husband that I’d seen a cat out there, maybe he took it off or ate it. My husband said no cat took that water moccasin, it was huge! So we are walking where there is sunshine and nice white gravel till it’s too cold for snakes!
